Now that state Rep. Adrea Dalessandro (D-Sahuarita) has moved up to the Senate to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Senator Linda Lopez in Legislative District 2, there is a vacancy in the House created by Dalessandro's departure.
There will be a special election to select three nominees to forward to the Pima County Board of Supervisors to appointment a replacement to the vacant House seat.
Only elected Democratic precinct committee persons living in Pima County are entitled to vote in the special election to be held this Saturday, February 1:
What: Special Election for LD 2 House Seat
When: Saturday, February 1, 9:30 a.m. sign-in, 10:00 a.m meeting
Where: Democratic Club of the Santa Rita Area HQ, 210 W. Continental Road, Ste. 248 (upstairs meeting room), Green Valley, AZ 85614.
Details: Announced candidates so far are Demion Clinco, Annabelle Nunez, and Miguel Cuevas, all of whom were candidates for the appointment to the Senate seat. Only elected PCs will vote in person or by proxy, but all PCs and interested Democrats are encouraged to attend.
The special election will be followed by a petition signing party in the Green Valley Democratic Party Headquarters, located on the ground floor of the Continental Mall. Candidates will be in attendance with their petitions. Refreshments will be available.

She was elected Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1974, 1978, and 1982. She ran for the U.S. Senate in 1976 and was Democratic nominee for Governorship of Arizona in 1986. She was Elected Democratic National Committeewoman in 2004 and most recently in 2008. The purpose of the commission and the hearings will be to build the Congressional record for a Voter Registration Act fix.

Tucson City Council member Steve Kozachik is hosting a community gun-control and mental-health forum Tuesday, January 7, at 6:30 p.m., at The Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway. The forum will follow a presentation of Living for 32:
Join us on January 7th for a screening of Living for 32, with a panel discussion to follow. On April 16th, 2007, 32 students were gunned down in a senseless shooting on the Virginia Tech campus. Colin Goddard was in the room, and survived multiple gun shot wounds. On the 7th, Colin will join the Tucson Chief of Police, Pima County Sheriff, representatives of the Mental Health service provider community, Mayor Rothschild and City Council member Steve Kozachik to discuss local initiatives related to mental health issues, background checks and other related topics. This forum is presented by The Loft Cinema, with support from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Organizing for Action and the Tucson Coalition against Gun Violence.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and is open to the public.

The January 8th Memorial Foundation is honored to present “January 8th Memorial Foundation: Together We Thrive,” which will be presented at three different branches of the Pima County Public Library from January 3rd-31, 2014. This is the first time any of these touching community-created materials will be publically seen since February 2011 and we want to remember together.
The exhibits will be installed at three libraries: Nanini, Eckstrom-Columbus and Joel D. Valdez Main. Each exhibit will have a special opening event:

■ Flag-raising and reception on Wednesday, January 8th at Nanini at 10:00 a.m.
■ Reception on Thursday, January 9th at Eckstrom-Columbus at 5:30 p.m.

Monday, December 23, Noon: Democrats of Greater Tucson luncheon, Dragon's View Restaurant (400 N. Bonita, South of St. Mary's Road between the Freeway and Grande Avenue, turn South at Furr's Cafeteria), buffet lunch costs $8.50. No DGT this week. Note: DGT is taking a break for the holidays until January 6.
