Charles Piece at Esquire does a weekly post he calls "This week in the laboratories of democracy" in which he takes a look at what is going on in the states. (When it comes to Arizona, Jon Stewart at The Daily Show more accurately describes Arizona as "the meth lab of democracy"). This Week In The Laboratories Of Democracy:
Welcome back to our weekly survey of what's goin' down in the several state where, as we know, the real work of governmentin' gets done and where to live outside the law you must be honest.
The week was highlighted by a lovely lady state representative from
where-the-fk-else? Arizona, who took advantage of a nearby microphone to
beat Mr. Godwin into a fine powder, and to question the existence of testicles among local law-enforcement.
"Someone is paying the National Park Service thugs overtime for their efforts to carry out the order of De Fuhrer," Barton wrote. "[W]here are our Constitutional Sheriffs who can revoke the Park Service Rangers authority to arrest??? Do we have any Sheriffs with a pair?"
The lovely Ms. Barton has lost the plot, I fear. If the government shuts down because it has been vandalized, then everything the government does shuts down as well. It didn't take long for the velveeta to hit the fan, however, and the lovely Ms. Barton came back with one of the lamest if-I-offended-someone apologias in the history of western democracy.
"Let me clarify that I never used the word or said that President Obama was 'Hitler,'" Barton said. "That was a creative assumption of the Capitol Times reporter, who also reported that I referred to our government as a 'Constitutional Democracy.' I would never say use that description because, we are in fact -- through law and history -- a Constitutional Republic."
Lame apology coupled with one of the hoariest tropes in the history of wingnut alibis. I predict this woman will go far.
This was hardly the bee-hived Tea Party queen's first foray into controversial statements. Remember this from back in August of this year? Representatives Thorpe And Barton In Spotlight For Recent Comments:
Republican Rep. Brenda Barton of Payson, who also represents District 6, has made comments of her own regarding the rodeo mask incident on her Facebook account, but does not appear to be offering apologies for her statements.
“I hope rodeo clowns this season all wear Obama masks in solidarity with the guy who lost his job because Barry’s (Obama) hide is so thin!” wrote Barton.
Barton denied her comments were racist and added, “All presidents since Richard Nixon (Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and the rest) have been the subject of jokes and ridicule, why should this one be different? The fact that this president seems to relish showing off his elite status over the rest of us however is something new.”
Barton was contacted at her office but had no further comment.
There's a clown alright, and it is Rep. Brenda Barton, who is the subject of jokes and ridicule. The shoe is on the other foot now.
The beaker in the meth lab of democracy fell over, on the floor, when it produced Barton, Thorpe, Ward and Trent Franks.
