Remember back in 2011 the Baja Arizona "partition and separation" movement spearheaded by former Pima County Democratic Party Chairman Paul Eckerstrom? The media had a good time mocking this statehood effort. The Daily Show even came to Tucson for a segment.
Well, where are all the chuckleheads in the media now? A Tea Party "partition and separation" movement in the state of Colorado has qualified for the ballot. Oh, so its funny when liberal Democrats in Baja Arizona want their own state -- we at least have an historical territorial claim for partition and separation under the Gadsden Purchase (the Guadalupe-Hidalgo Treaty of 1853) -- but suddenly it's oh so serious when some Tea Party wingnuts want to partition and separate from Colorado (and Wyoming and Nebraska) to create an ideological ghetto for Tea Party wingnuts?
Several rural, predominantly Republican counties of north and and northeastern Colorado announced their plans to create a 51st state back in June.
The Washington Post reports today, incorrectly using the terminology "secession" as every reporter apparently feels compelled to do, Colorado county to vote on secession:
Residents in a conservative northern Colorado county will vote this November on whether to secede and create a new state, after a local commission on Monday approved ballot language backed by tea party activists.
The Weld County Commission unanimously approved the resolution’s language, which reads: “Shall the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, in concert with the county commissioners of other Colorado counties, pursue becoming the 51st state of the United States of America?”
Weld County is one of ten rural counties where activists have held meetings about seceding from Colorado.

Several county commissions have held public meetings on the topic since activists started bringing up the idea; the Weld County commission held four meetings before their vote on Monday.
“The concerns of rural Coloradans have been ignored for years,” commission chairman William Garcia said in a statement. “The last session was the straw that broke the camel’s back for many people. They want change. They want to be heard. Policies being passed by the legislature in Denver are having negative impacts on the lives of rural Coloradans. This isn’t an ‘R’ versus ‘D’ issue; it’s much bigger than that.”
Hmmm, these same sentiments were mocked by the chuckleheads in our media when the residents of Baja Arizona made them about our oppressive colonial overlords from the state of Maricopa.
The Huffington Post adds, Move To Create 51st State Makes It Onto The Ballot:
To secede or not to secede from Colorado? That is the question that residents in Weld County will face in November after county commissioners voted unanimously Monday in favor of putting a 51st state initiative on the ballot, the Greeley Tribune reports.
The initiative, which calls for the creation of the state of North Colorado, has already made it onto the ballot in Cheyenne, Sedgwick and Yuma Counties. Logan, Phillips, Washington and Kit Carson Counties have also set dates to vote on the initiative.

The vote, however, has been regarded as largely symbolic, since the new state would have to be approved by the state legislature, the governor and Congress.
I can't imagine the state of Colorado would ever give its permission. Congress will never agree to give the 51st state of "North Colorado" two wingnut teabagger senators and a congressman unless it could achieve balance by adding a 52nd state with two liberal senators and a congressman. Hence, the revival of Baja Arizona statehood -- ¡Viva Baja Arizona!
The Gadsden Purchase under the Guadalupe-Hidalgo Treaty of 1853 encompassed everything South of the Gila River, not just Pima County. The Official Web Site of the Gadsden Purchase:
There are several other "partition and separation" movements for statehood elsewhere, not just here in Baja Arizona. List of U.S. state partition proposals.
