I really don't envy Jeff Flake. He's going head to head with one of the most difficult candidates to run against in the country. How can anyone top Carmona's story? And Flake, with all kinds of congressional votes to pick through and no private sector experience outside of his stint as a lobbyist, is easy pickings for the Carmona campaign. Carmona's latest ad, which you can see below the fold, is a perfect example of what Flake's up against.
And what does Flake have against Carmona? He has the claim that Bush's Surgeon General and one of the most independent-minded people you'll find anywhere is going to be carrying water for Obama. I just clicked through an anti-Carmona ad link on Talking Points Menu. The web page was created by Freedom Works. Not only does it look amateurish and have weak copy, but when you click on the video titled "Richard Carmona: Handpicked by Obama," it comes up with a black screen saying "The video has been removed by the user." Flakey, flakey, flakey.
Watch Carmona's new ad below the fold.
I am going to vote for the Libertarian candidate Marc Victor in the race to replace US Senator Jon Kyl.
Even so I will admit that Richard Carmona has a squeaky clean background and a very impressive resume.
Beyond that if a reasoning Arizona voter asks the following questions will that same voter like the answer he gets?
1. In any given vote on any given issue is Carmona going to vote with Barack Obama and the Democratic party?
2. In any given nomination to the US Supreme court is Carmona going to support nominees that enhance and expand government power in their rulings?
3. How many more US soldiers need to die in Afghanistan before presumably independent-minded Richard Carmona calls for an immediate end to the US occupation of Afghanistan?
4. What position does Richard Carmona have on auditing the Federal Reserve? (As best I can tell he doesn't have one.)
I rather think that few people think that Richard Carmona and Jeff Flake are anything but good Joes with the best of intentions who both believe that they would make a better world if elected. The question is what positions do either of them hold that would aid Americans and the human race?
Marc Victor has posts on six issues at http://www.VictorForSenate.com/ "Freedoms, Economy, Foreign Policy, 2nd Amendment, Drug War and Immigration" He explains in a few paragraphs his position on each issue.
In case the audience here needs a reminder of how many US soldiers have died in pursuit of propping up Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and his regime here is a useful link:
