James Taylor jokes about the empty chair at DNC Convention

North Carolina native son and five-time Grammy Award winner James Taylor opened the evening with crowd favorite “Carolina On My Mind.” As he took the stage, Taylor joked about the stool set on the stage for him. James Taylor makes 'empty chair' joke - POLITICO:

“I know it’s an empty chair. It makes you nervous, doesn’t it?” Taylor said after he walked on the stage. “It’s alright, I’m gonna sit on it. I’m not gonna talk to it.”

After the final refrain, Taylor smiled and said, “You know, I’ve been watching the coverage, and I’ve got to say, there’s something; I don’t get it. I mean, I’m an old white guy, and I love Barack Obama,” Taylor said to cheers from the crowd.

James Taylor (the Big Name entertainment at the DNC Convention this week) described him self as: “I’m an old white guy ….” If James had wanted to be a little more accurate he might have said “I’m an old white long time smack heroin junkie …” Is “Sweet Baby James” the new face of the Dem Party this year? Let me see if I can capture the highlights of Taylor’s Bio: In late 1965 he was committed to McLean Mental Hospital for drug abuse where he was treated with Thorazine. During the Vietnam War Taylor received a psychological rejection from Selective Service System when he appeared before them with two white-suited McLean assistants – that must have been a hoot! No wonder he likes Team Obama, I understand Biden pulled a similar stunt when he got his draft notice. Hanging out at McLean was kind of a Taylor family tradition as both his brother and sister would periodically “rehab” there too.

In 1966 Taylor checked himself out of McLean and quickly “graduated” to hard drugs - Indeed, he developed into full-blown heroin addict. After another “rehab” be immediately fell back into his drug habit, using heroin and methedrine so underwent physeptone treatment in a British program and then returned to a New York hospit and finally was committed to the Austen Riggs Center…. It wasn’t until the then 35 year old “kid” finally dropped methadone in 1983.

Obama can’t quite seem to get the middle class normal white vote so appears he’s going after the habitual Smack Junky demographic? That’s a pretty narrow slice but I guess he figures he’ll get what he can.

So you give a pass to the bloviating pill popper Limbaugh? Hypocritical fail. So Taylor (by your own admission) QUIT 29 years ago. I seem to recall ol' Rush having a very very recent fall from grace. But don't let truth stop you.
