Here is a transcript of the RNC Convention acceptance speech by Willard "Mittens" Romney. Transcript: Mitt Romney's Acceptance Speech.
Go ahead, word search his speech for "troops," "service," "veterans," "Afghanistan." I'll wait.
In his acceptance speech, Willard "Mittens" Romney never mentioned the war in Afghanistan, never acknowledged the service of men and women serving their country in the U.S. Armed Forces, nor our veterans. Not once. Romney mentioned the "military" only once, but in reference to sequestration budget cuts.
If a Democrat did this, there would have been an instantaneous firestorm of howling criticism from the mighty Wurlitzer of the right-wing noise machine. This slight to our Armed Forces and veterans went largely unnoticed by the media villagers and Beltway bloviators in their post-speech commentary.
As Steve Benen notes today in An invisible war:
I think we know what would happen under such a scenario. McCain,
Kristol, Krauthammer, Limbaugh, Cheney, et al, would reach an
unavoidable conclusion: there's simply no way this Democrat has a
credible claim to be Commander in Chief during a time of war.

When was the last time there was a major-party nominating convention held during a war in which the presidential candidate decided not to mention the conflict or those fighting on our behalf? Has this ever happened?
For that matter, can anyone say with confidence what Romney's position on the war is? Or how he intends to execute this war if he's president in five months?
Are McCain, Kristol, Krauthammer, Limbaugh, Cheney, et al, on board with this?
[Note: Bloody Bill Kristol was not pleased with Romney's failure to mention the troops, veterans, or Afghanistan.]

If Romney takes the oath of office in January, he'll have tens of thousands of American troops on the ground in Afghanistan. Does anyone have the foggiest idea what he intends to do with those troops and/or how long he intends to keep them there? Does he?
Romney, who was a draft dodger during the Vietnam war, Willard 'Mittens' Romney had better things to do during the Vietnam war, nevertheless engaged in saber-rattling and threatening war with Iran in a portion of his speech likely written by Dan Senor, or perhaps Elliot Abrams, his Neocon foreign policy advisers from the George W. Bush administration. Here is the full list of Mitt Romney's national security team. Recently, Elliot Abrams, now a Ryan Adviser Calls On Congress To Authorize War With Iran. Here is the passage from Romney's acceptance speech:
Every American was relieved the day President Obama gave the order, and Seal Team Six took out Osama bin Laden. But on another front, every American is less secure today because he has failed to slow Iran's nuclear threat.
In his first TV interview as president, he said we should talk to Iran. We're still talking, and Iran's centrifuges are still spinning.
President Obama has thrown allies like Israel under the bus, even as he has relaxed sanctions on Castro's Cuba. He abandoned our friends in Poland by walking away from our missile defense commitments, but is eager to give Russia's President Putin the flexibility he desires, after the election. Under my administration, our friends will see more loyalty, and Mr. Putin will see a little less flexibility and more backbone.
This is a man who cannot even acknowledge the sacrifice and service of the men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and our veterans, or even mention the war in Afghanistan, but his team of George W. Bush Neocon war monger foreign policy advisers are chomping at the bit to go to war with Iran.
I have said it before and I will say it again: a vote for Romney is a vote for war with Iran. Is Romney going to send his five sons off to fight his war? Unless you are willing to serve, or to send your sons and daughters off to serve in yet another Neocon war of adventure, you have no right to commit anyone else to a futile war.
