Look, I don't want to get all English teacher on you and make this an assignment, but you really should watch Bill Moyers' interview with author Luis Alberto Urrea. It's simply the clearest exposition of both sides of the Mexico-U.S. border and of the experience of other-ness that comes from being Mexican-American -- or being other versions of "other" in this country -- I have ever heard. Plain spoken without being simplistic, heartfelt without being mushy. And very engaging.
Look, I don't like PBS much, and I [almost] never watch Bill Moyers. So if you like this kind of thing more than I do, you should love this. And if you're more like me on the "educational TV" thing, give this one a shot. You won't be sorry.
Well, I know that I've passed this on to others. It is must see TV, as far as I'm concerned. As I stumbled upon this the other night, I found it riveting. Spellbinding, even.It could have had something to do with living in AZ, but I think it was even more than that...a human condition, a connection...that we have lost in our conversations. So glad that you posted this again and I hope that people ARE really watching, even though they may not be leaving comments. High praise for this episode and this writer.
