Speaking of crap polls, there is nothing more offensive than "push polls" -- polls not designed to solicit your opinion but to sway your opinion with questions designed to lead you, generally negatively against a particular candidate. These push polls are done by large telemarketing firms, generally from outside of the state of Arizona.
An alert reader of Blog for Arizona, Jana, sent us an e-mail alerting us to a push poll in the field against Congressman Grijalva.
"I don't know how common push polls are, but this was my first and I am angry. It was definitely designed to turn recipients against Grijalva. Asked me if I would be likely to vote for Grijalva knowing he supported the SB1070 boycott. I demanded to know who funded the "poll'. A supervisor told me it was done by Conquest Research, but he could not tell me more. He hung up on me when I asked for his supervisor. From an internet search, it looks like Conquest Research is part of Conquest Communications Group (scary name) and they work for Republicans. Sleazy, sleazy."
Following Jana's lead, I looked up Conquest Communications Group. It's corporate headquarters are in Richmond, Virginia:

Utilizing highly trained, accent-neutral agents, Conquest’s reputation for quality, integrity and reliability is among the highest in its sector. Having our call center facility at the same location as our executive offices allows our team to directly supervise any deployment that calls for identification/segmentation programs, tele-fundraising, survey research or message delivery.
We know how to build winning campaigns.
Check out the company logo, above, which screams "push poll" with "Guide Opinion, Lead People..." Here is a list of Conquest's Clients - heavy on Republicans, PACs and right-wing interest groups.
Several states have banned out-of-state political robo calls from telemarketers. The state of Indiana has a model law that has withstood legal challenges from the industry. The Indiana law places limitations on political robo calls and requires the calls to originate from within the state. It bans out-of-state telemarketer robo calls. This is something you can contact your state legislators about and ask them to sponsor a bill in the next legislature. Bill writing is already going on right now, so do not delay.
