UA's College Republicans tried to throw together a partisan LD-28 debate where they hoped to ask the candidates loaded questions (softballs to Krino, fastballs-thrown-at-the-head to Aboud). Then they emailed the candidates in the race, telling them, "Show up!"
These guys can't even pull off a simple scam successfully. They got Paula Aboud's email wrong, so she never received their "Show up!" order. She found out the debate was happening when she read about it on BfA's weekly calendar.
The College Republicans are telling everyone the debate is co-hosted by the UA Young Democrats, but they're lying. According to the Young Dems' president, Chris Campas, someone from the College Rs approached him and asked if Aboud would be available on a certain date, then they went ahead and scheduled it on a different date without talking with Campas again. The Young Dems have nothing to do with the event.
This is a poorly conceived, poorly executed ambush. These guys are amateurs, and not very talented amateurs at that.
You think maybe Scarpinato had a hand in all this? It looks to me like his messy fingerprints are all over it.
See the comments under the weekly political calendar from friend of Blog for Arizona Carolyn Classen. Daniel Scarpinato did the press release according to her research. See Dave Ewoldt's e-mail as well.

More on this: Independent Dave Ewoldt also told me that Scarpinato send him an email on Saturday 10/9 saying this:
"Good news! The College Democrats have agreed to co-host.>
"I will be in touch later today about whether Paula will participate and a meeting to agree on the ground rules. We want this to be fair and objective (I'm a journalist, so I understand the importance of that). And it's important that everyone is comfortable with the ground rules."
But the Young Democrats said they aren't co-hosting.
