I knew there was a reason I've always liked this guy, despite his being on the wrong side of politics.
Tucson's own Dr. Richard Carmona, all around cowboy and former Surgeon General in the Bush Administration has come out swinging at the Administration's muzzling of him on important, but politically sensitive topic during his tenure. I'm not sure why Carmona has waited until now to speak publically. It would be interesting to hear if anyone thinks they know.
Here's the take-away quote from the good Doctor:
"Anything that doesn't fit into the political appointees' ideological, theological or political agenda is often ignored, marginalized or simply buried," he said. "The problem with this approach is that in public health, as in a democracy, there is nothing worse than ignoring science or marginalizing the voice of science for reasons driven by changing political winds."
I remember when Dr. Carmona was nominated, it was a big deal at the time, too bad none of us knew how pervasive politics was in the Bush administration. Hearing about what happened I'm surprised Dr. Carmona had not left earlier. At least he got out with his integrity intact, can't say the same thing for Colin Powell or Donald Rumsfeld (and hopefully Alberto Gonzales soon).

It is a shame that Dr. Cromona did not resign soomer. it seems that an astute person should have seen what is going on in this administration sooner. However, better late than never. The doctor's statement is a testemonial to the insidiousness of the Bush administration. What can one expect from one who is a decider ordained by God. Surely God could have vetted better and recognized venality, stupidity and incompetence that is the hallmark of Bush and his administration. I pray that Bush's remaining term hurries by and he leaves this country to lick its very sore wounds.

I imagine Carmona knew that he would be smeared like all the other ex-administration people who have tried to warn the American people about the Mayberry Machiavellians running the country.
As such, his comments would have been marginalized and ignored by the corpmedia.
The occasion of a Waxman investigation into formalized dogmatic ignorance, ala the GOP power structure, provided him with a forum that assured his complaints would be broadly heard.
He didn't want to waste his rant....
This, of course, was impossible before the 2006 elections.

Dr. Carmona was given this job to keep him from running for Congress AGAINST Raul Grijalva; he was tootered how to "SPEAK" to George Bush by Dennis DeConcini to get the job. Carmona was a Democrat then was a Republican now who knows as he flips Parties Like Giffords to get a job here and there!
This guy is a Rudy "Lets Make a Deal" guy and if you do not like what I say I will have someone take care of you!
Just like Giffords support of The Tucson Hebrew Solar Demonstration Project of 2004 being touted by George Villec President of GEO Innovation LLC. at The Tucson Jewish Community Center with our to be elected only Jewish member of Congress all ears and writting IOU's in Federal Tax Dollars if you support my campaign for Congress. Well guess what dshe is now paying off all here Jewish Friends in spades!
Iam for Solar in Southern Arizona but not done in back rooms and using my tax dollars for friends!
There are alot of Solar Companies that want to get involved but as the Star's Shelly Shelton keeps pushing this dog and pony show looks like she is in it up to her neck also!
