Pro-choice women for McCain? Not a chance

Joe Sudbay at Americablog.com writes Dear Debra, You're wrong. John McCain is vehemently anti-choice and said he will be a "pro-life President"
Debra Bartoshevich is the star of a new John McCain ad. She's a nurse and a former Clinton delegate who [says she] is voting for McCain. Yesterday, the RNC hauled Debra to Denver so she could rub it in our faces that she's with McCain now.
According to Steve Benen (who is now at Washington Monthly), Debra doesn't really know John McCain's record. She actually thinks he's pro-choice:
At a Denver press conference this afternoon organized by Republicans, Bartoschevich, who claims to be a pro-choice Democrat, was asked about her concerns about reproductive rights under another pro-life Republican president.
"Going back to 1999, John McCain did an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle saying that overturning Roe v. Wade would not make any sense, because then women would have to have illegal abortions," Bartoschevich said.
This is surprisingly helpful. I've wondered why a pro-choice Democrat who cares about women's rights would even consider a conservative Republican with an abysmal record on women's rights. It turns out, the answer is pretty straightforward: she's terribly confused.
Not confused. She is hopelessly ill-informed. And the McCain campaign took advantage of this ill-informed woman and used her (more McCain misogyny). Perhaps Debra did not see the Saddleback Civil Forum just a little more than a week ago when John McCain had this to say about Roe v. Wade and women's choice:
The Hillary women I know are well educated and well informed. They have spent their lives defending a woman's right to make medical decisions regarding her own health, without government interference. They know that John McCain is diametrically opposed to everything they believe.
Hillary women are also acutely aware that the U.S. Supreme Court is a critical issue in the campaign this year. They understand that Roe v. Wade hangs in the balance. Hillary women are not fooled by McCain's sophomoric attempts to woo them. It is a sign of desperation.

I don't know which is worse: the McCain people using this woman or the woman being so foolish and uninformed! Sheesh!!! I sure am glad she isn't my daughter!!!! I would be so ashamed! It is one thing for people to see things differently - each of us has to do what we think is best. But to allow yourself to be flattered into being on a TV ad speaking nonsense - Shame on you, Debra Bartoshevich! You're an embarrassment to women and especially all the well informed young women working in politics!!!!
