Sen. Barack Obama has denounced and disowned his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
The Washington Post in an editorial Parting With the Pastor - washingtonpost.com concluded that “we don’t see how anyone can question his commitment to transcending old racial battles and finding common ground. The Rev. Wright doesn’t speak for the candidate, and we hope the pastor doesn’t become a continuing excuse for political ads built on racial fears.”
The New York Times in an editorial Mr. Obama and Rev. Wright - New York Times said that “it was the most forthright repudiation of an out of control supporter that we can remember.” Obama’s “opponents also have a responsibility – to repudiate the race baiting and make sure it stops.”
Which begs the question: When will the news media require Sen. John McCain to denounce and disown the racist and bigoted supporters in his campaign with the same vigorous fixation the news media has shown for Barack Obama and his Pastor Wright?
When will McCain renounce his association with and disown a white supremacist named Richard Quinn, who was hired by McCain as a political advisor in 2000 (he is believed to still be an advisor to his campaign) after openly praising Klansman David Duke (he called him a “maverick”), selling T-shirts praising the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and writing/editing for a magazine (Southern Partisan) that claimed slave owners really weren’t all that bad. When will McCain renounce and disown the endorsement of Pastor John Hagee, whose endorsement was actively pursued and sought out by McCain? Catholics United, the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, and InsideCatholic have called upon McCain to reject Hagee’s endorsement because of his virulent hate speech towards Catholics. Hagee has said that God will send terrorists to create a “bloodbath” in the U.S. to punish us for supporting a two state solution in Israel/Palestine. McCain ‘Very Honored’ By Support Of Pastor Preaching ‘End-Time Confrontation With Iran’
When will McCain renounce and disown the endorsement of Pastor Rod Parsley, whom McCain has called his “spiritual guide?” Parsley has said that the government, by funding Planned Parenthood, is complicit in genocide against African Americans. McCain Spiritual Guide Accused Gov't Of Enabling 'Black Genocide' - Politics on The Huffington Post Parsley, like Pastor Hagee, is an apocalyptic end-timer who has called for Christians to wage a “war” against the “false religion” of Islam to destroy Islam. John McCain's "Spiritual Guide" Calls For Destruction Of Islam - Politics on The Huffington Post
Six years after labeling the late Rev. Jerry Falwell one of the political “agents of intolerance,” McCain groveled before Falwell by agreeing to deliver a commencement address at his Liberty University in pursuit of Falwell’s endorsement. Here is Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson on the 700 Club on September 13, 2001, saying that Americans are to blame for 9/11 and that "God continues to lift the curtain and to allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.” YouTube - Falwell and Robertson on The 700 Club after 9/11
It is only a difference of symantics from Rev. Wright's comments. Does McCain share the beliefs and values of these crazy individuals whom he activey pursued and sought out their endorsement?
The news media, who invented media darling John McCain, continue to apply a “black and white” double standard to their coverage of this presidential campaign. What does this say about the inherent biases of the news media? John McCain should be held to the same exacting standards to which Barack Obama has been held. End the double standard.

whatever dude, US of KKK!

Mr. Bretney, I am a regular visitor to this blog and I am deeply offended by your comments. They have no place on a blog dedicated to polite discourse and differences of opinion.

Mr. Bretney, your ignorance is proof that "white supremacy" is an oxymoron, and in your case, also a moron. There are plenty of web sites for you to frequent which would welcome your ignorant hate. You are not welcome here. Goodbye.

AzBlueMeanie, I am offended by your assumption that I am a white man and that I am a white man who believes in white supremacy. Both instances like your argument are not true.
Even if all of your arguments in their proper context were true, there associations with McCain do not reach back 20 years nor are they of the intimate quality that Mr. B. Hussein Obama with his former pastor. Further McCain does not equivocate about his associations in the way Mr. B. Hussein Obama does with the Reverand living a 1.6 million dollar mansion in a white neighborhood and the unrepetent bomb throwing Bill Ayers.
But let's get a little deeper in your argument here. The most damning evidence you got is Richard Quinn of South Carolina. But his racism is over 20 years old. With secluar progressives like you, there is no forgiveness or redemption, the rest of us normal people take a cue from the great world religions. Further in SC, you are either a Quinn person or a Tompkins person. SC is a strange place, you have to live there to understand it. I have lived there, how about you?
Jerry Falwell is dead. Rev. Hagee recently praised the pope. And Parlsey is right about Planned Parenthood. 1/3 of all abortions are black babies. Callers from the Laura Ingrahm show called Planned Parenthood to see if they would take donations from racists who wanted thier money earmarked to kill black babies and your people took the money - no questions asked.
I know the people who are close to McCain because I worked with them as an intern. They are John Raidt and Mark Salter. If you had a racist dossier on them, I would be concerned. But as you don't, there isn't much here to crow about.
mtheory, drawing first blood via an attack ad hominem is the equivalent of flying the white flag. People like you make we want to petition the government to invent sexually transmitted virus and diseases that kill only idiot white liberals.
